1.1. Overview

Welcome to the Conquest Data Systems - Deluxe Batch Scheduler System

Deluxe Batch Scheduler is a robust Software Process Control Management system that can be used to schedule, run, control and monitor the execution of any of your production software application systems (including web applications such as .Net, ASP and Cold Fusion). Batch Scheduler also lets you maximize usage of available hardware, software and human resources within your organization.

The Deluxe Batch Scheduler System is composed of six main components:

The Manager Program,
Console Monitor Program,
Controller Program,
Agent Program,
Alert Processor Program,
EZ Batch Utility Program,
and Database Server Program,

These programs work in concert, to give you complete control and monitoring of all of the batch processing for your installation.

The Manager Program
The Manager program is used to create and maintain all of the Jobs, Batches, Calendars, Users, Alerts, and Associated Documents defined in the Scheduling Database. The Manager program also contains a host of functions such as Export/Import database and Security Definition.

The Controller Program
The Controller program examines the batches defined in the database and determines when it is time to start a batch. Once a batch has been started, the Controller program monitors and controls the progress of the steps defined in a given batch being executed.

The Agent Program
The Agent Program waits for requests from the Controller to run a program. The Agent runs and monitors the execution of programs running on the Agent Computer. The Agent reports back to the Controller when a Job has completed. Depending on your site license, you may have any number of Agent computers running in the batch scheduling environment at a time.

The Console Monitor Program
The Console Monitor program is used to view and manage active Batches, Alerts, Controllers and Agents in the batch scheduling environment.

- Batch Monitor gives you the ability to hold, cancel or restart a failed batch. In addition, you may force start any pending batch.

- Alerts Monitor let you view and handle active alerts in the system.

- Agent monitor lets you view and control the activity on any Agent computer defined in the batch environment.

- Controller Monitor lets you view and control the activity of the active Controller program.

The Alerts Processor Program
Alerts Processor scans the system for any raised alerts and handles sending out Email, Pager and/or Beeper notification to a specific user or a set of users defined in a specific User Group or Alerts Group.

The EZ Batch Utility Program
EZ Batch provide a convenient method of Job and Batch setup. These functions (in their expanded form) are also available in the Manager program.

The Database Server Program
The Database Server program performs activities in the database for remote system components communicating over a TCP internet connection.
