Database Setup

Note
The Tracker Enterprise Management System comes pre-configured, ready for use with the supplied (Access) demo database. If you only wish to use the demo database, then you can skip to Step 1.3.3 Testing the installation.

Use these instructions to install the system with a database management system OTHER than Access.

The Tracker System will require a computer network in order to operate in a multi-user environment. A network is not required to run this system entirely on a single computer.

The following will assist you in setting up the necessary Database and supporting tables for your Tracker System.

If you are setting up this system for demonstration purposes, an Access database with a sample demo database (trackent.mdb) was installed during the installation. Tracker will automatically configure an ODBC datasource for the demo the first time you run one of the Tracker System programs.

Step 1
Decide the type of database system you want to use for the Tracker System database.

Access
SQL Server
Oracle
MySQL

Note: Except for Access, you will need to purchase a database manager system separately, and are responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining that database system.

Step 2
Create the initial database using your database manager. For example: create a database named:TRACKENT

Step 3
Have your DBA run the appropriate EMSSetupxxxx.sql script (Available upon request) to create the needed supporting tables in your database.
Establish a UserID in the database with Create and Update access to the system database and tables. You will need to setup a UserID for each user intending to have access to the system.

Step 4
Setup the required ODBC Datasource

Use the ODBC Data Source manager program (typically found on your windows Start/Settings/Control Panel menu) to create a Datasource to points to the database created in Step 2 above.

The Tracker System comes pre-configured for an ODBC Datasource named 'TRACKENT'. Database configuration information is stored in a file named (trackent.cfg) located in the installation directory (ie. C:\Program Files\Tracker Enterprise Managment\trackent.cfg).

Below is shown a sample of the Windows ODBC Data Source Manager program screen.
