2.3.2.1.2. Options Information Tab
The Inventory Item Options Tab is used to define any options which an item may have. Color is an example of an option which might be defined for an item.
There are three types of options that can be defined for an inventory item and can be used for a number of purposes.
Options can be incorporated into the definition of the Assembly Package for this item to make decisions regarding production steps to include or exclude as a result of a requested (or not requested) option.
Options can also be used in the Assembly Package definition to define conditional Bills of Material associated with conditional steps based on specified option settings.
The Production Manager uses an items Assembly Package definition in conjunction with the customer order requested options for each item when generating the step/time list during scheduling.
Conditional manufacturing steps can be defined in the Assembly Package that will only be added to the generated steps list depending on the customer order option selections.
The different type of available options are:
Simple - Yes/No
Use this option type to indicate the presence or absence of a specific option.
For example: Tinted: Yes/No
List of options
Use this option type to define a list of options which will be presented when this item is added to a customer order.
The person placing the order may choose from one of the available options. Color or style would be a good use for this option type.
Enter value option
This option type allows for the input of option values when an order for the item is added to a customer order.
The input values can be used in conjunction with the Bill Of Material for the manufacture of this item to define variable material needs based on input options. Length and Width might be an example of a use for this option type to calculate lumber requirements to build a wooden cabinet.
